Okinawa: Taketomi

26th August, 2007

We headed to another island today called Taketomi. This island was only 10 minutes away by ferry which was good. We were only going to spend half a day on this island so we thought the best use of time would be to hire bikes and bike around the island. It was fun to bike around. Our first stop was Kandoi Beach. The water was quite shallow as the tide was out but we still managed to take a quick dip. The water was beautiful. Just the right temperature and crystal clear. You could see everything that was in the water.

We rode our bikes to the the next little beach where the sand was star shaped. This star shaped sand is famous in Okinawa. It looked so cool. When you picked it up you could actually see the little stars. Some people tried to take some sand but they soon got told off. You can buy small amounts as a souvenir.

We walked out to one of the rocks in the water and along the way stumbled across many interesting creatures in the water which we could see as it was so clear.

On this island there is a buffalo which pulls a cart that can take you around the island. We didn’t go on it but we saw it going past.

The houses in Okinawa have a different style to what I am used to. Here is a picture of some roof tops of the houses on this island.

Taketomi was a cute little island and I am glad that we were able to visit it.
